Sheltering at home and wondering what to do with the time? Welcome to the club. It’s an odd time for sure, but staying at home presents an extraordinary opportunity for you to grow your career.

How can I discover my ideal career path at home?

Being at home is an opportunity to jump start your career. Do you wonder if you’re in the right field? Wondering about going to college or going back to college? Wanting to get certified? Wanting to learn more about a field you’ve dreamed of, but never pursued?

There are 2 simple and smart career moves you can make while sheltering at home:

  1. Clarify your passion

  2. Discover your abilities

Clarifying your passions requires time for you to reflect on your natural interests. Some questions I use with my clients to help jog their thinking around natural interests:

  • What activities do you like so much that they cause you to lose track of time?

  • What is your favorite topic to discuss with friends?

  • If you had no fear of failing, what would you do with your life?

I love to hear people’s responses to these questions. “I lose track of time when I am…. writing a grant, playing with kids, drawing, reading, creating excel sheets.” I’ve heard it all. No interest is too small or great. You will gain greater clarity as you allow any and all ideas to flow in answering these questions. You can filter them later.

Discovering Your Abilities requires objective feedback. It’s not easy to know what you’re naturally gifted in. I struggled for years to figure out which talents I possessed that could translate to the workplace. Once I worked with a career coach who could provide me with objective testing methods, I quickly found a career path that I love and have thrived in for several years. I’ve found it helpful for my clients to receive feedback rather than feeling the pressure to “figure it out” on their own.

How can you receive clear, objective feedback? I conduct an easy, scientifically validated testing instrument with my clients to uncover their natural talents.
